In an effort to reduce complexity, the USCAR / EWCAP team has decided to limit the preferred connector colors to Black, Dark gray,Light gray and White. Orange is reserved for High Voltage applications and Yellow for restraint systems. It should be noted, some color additives can affect component performance.
EWCAP has worked with material supplier, Ticona Engineering Polymers (A business of Celanese) to develop a package of color plaques that can be used by connector suppliers to determine if a molded component falls within the OEM preferred color range. The plaques show a fairly wide range covering what are considered preferred limits of variation. The purpose of these plaques is to simplify, where color match is not critical, quality control activities between the connector supplier and their customer or between connector and material suppliers .
There is an example preferred color table shown on page 18 of the EWCAP drawing guideline found in
the EWCAP component catalog.
